Built to the 2026 rules
Escondido's 2026 update allows standard ADUs up to 1,200 sq ft, a bonus detached ADU of up to 800 sq ft on top, and detached heights up to 24 feet. Much of what is online still describes the old rules.
Free pre-approved plans
The city offers four free pre-approved ADU designs. We can build from one of them or design a custom unit, whichever fits your lot and budget better.
Fire and placement
Detached ADUs generally sit 10 feet from the main house, and units within 5 feet of a lot line need extra fire-rated construction. We plan placement around both.
